The Quilt Show
THE Quilt Show
This is it. If you quilt, admire quilts, love fabric, appreciate art, know someone who does, any or all of the aforementioned, you must, must, must, at least once in your life visit the International Quilt Festival in Houston.
Not that there aren't tons of great reasons to visit Houston, but this little adventure would be worth the trip, if it were located in a far less desirable locale.
Following are the pictures I took, and a few words about the images.
No single image, nor the collection in toto begins to do justice to this mega-event. Still, it's fun to look:
First up, some famous architectural beauties, made more beautiful by addition of quilts. (This was a photo display -- I'm thinking it was Photo-shopped)
The Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Houston, rendered in cotton
Cascading flowers. (they really do hang freely beneath the quilt's lower edge.)
Quilts, within a quilt:
Stunning, on both sides. Amazing!!!
Quilting doesn't always mean bedspreads, or wall hangings. Here are a couple of stunning examples of the Quilter's Art turned into garments.
Not, strictly speaking, a quilt, as this is a single layer of pieced fabric. I love this!! The log cabins are rendered in Silk Habutai, and the sashing and borders are made of sheer Silk Organza. I'm going to do this. I am.
Really!
Okay: someday.
